10 Unique ways to Find a Job

Dr. Stephen Jones

The ability to find a job is greatly enhanced by your personal involvement. You can submit your resume online to the career websites like LinkedIn but many jobs are still an outcome of relationships,  so I suggest that you get out and connect with people. Here are seven tips.

1. Join and network in an association in your profession
2. Ask friends to distribute your resume in their network
3. Volunteer or call into a radio station to talk about your profession
4.  Visit people in your network of friends and share your career goals
5.  Revise your resume and think of different jobs you can do. Have more than one resume. Give each resume a different focus.
6. Take someone out to lunch and share you career and employment goals
7.  Meet with someone who specializes in career counseling.
8. The more time that you spend trying to find a job each week the greater the results
9. Get many advocates who will share your resume with others
10. Join an association to meet people in your profession

When you are seeking a job you must treat it like it is a job. If you spend forty hours out of the week pursuing a job you will reap the benefits. Make sure that you follow up with people that you meet immediately. Then create action steps based on your conversation.  Taking action steps now will reveal job opportunities that you had not imagined before.
